 "I thirst."

″Knowing that all things were now finished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, the Sufferer emerged on the other side.  The more terrible aspect of sin-bearing and God-forsakenness was past; the prevalence of the merely human aspect of the suffering seems the beginning of Rest, of the End.  He could and did yield Himself to the mere physical wants of His body.  By accepting the physical refreshment offered Him, the Lord indicated the completion of the work of His Passion, and immediately passed on to "taste death for every man"″.

"Ho sete".

″Sapendo che in quel mentre tutto era finito e che la Scrittura poteva essere adempiuta, il Sofferente si concentrò su un altro aspetto. Quello più spaventoso dell'aver portato il peccato e dell'aver sperimentato l'allontanamento di Dio era passato; la preponderanza dell'aspetto puramente umano del provare dolore appare come il principio del Riposo, e quindi della Fine. Egli poteva cedere, e lo fece, alle mere necessità fisiche del suo corpo. Accettando quel po' di ristoro fisico offertogli, il Signore manifestò l'adempimento dell'opera della sua Passione, procedendo immediatamente a "gustare la morte per ogni uomo"″.
